Real Stories about Real Children

Billy- If little Billy could talk he would tell you that his cries mean that he is hungry. He isn't hungry just for food but for attention and a clean warm surrounding. He wants nothing more than to be held by his Mommy. He wants to hear her laugh when he coos and wants her to respond to him in a positive way. As a CASA you can help identify the needs of the family and be the voice for that little child in court.

Betsy - At age 11, after living with nine different relatives, Betsy came in to care. When the CASA visited the last known placement the child's clothes were in a plastic bag waiting for someone to deliver them to the child. She had not been the perfect child but had hardly been given time to settle in.  From there Betsy lived in group homes, private homes, foster homes, institutional care and finally aged out of the DFCS system at age 18.  She bounced from home to home with no connection to anyone she could call family. She did marry and had three little boys. It was clear that she loved her babies and that they loved her too.  For the first time in her life she had family who responded to her.  Only time will tell if she can be a successful parent.
