Internships

​Interns have an essential role in our organization. During this internship you will have the opportunity to join our CASA training, work closely with staff on volunteer and nonprofit management, get exposure to the juvenile court system and DFCS, and learn about child advocacy.

General goals for interns at completion of CASA internship 
  • ​Independently attend and document juvenile court proceedings and other DFCS case meetings
  • ​Engage with and assist in providing support to incoming (trainees) and active CASA volunteers.
  • Engage with and provide feedback to CASA volunteers in training through the online component of the preservice training. 
  • Track Incoming volunteers training progress and comprehensively document this progress.
  • Increase comfort level in assisting in recruitment and community outreach. 
  • Gain a well-rounded view of the child welfare system.
  • Gain perspective of the strengths and weaknesses of the child welfare system and all its components (CASA, DFCS, Juvenile court, service providers for families and children).
  • Gain perspective on the needs of children involved in the child welfare system. 
  • Gain perspective on the needs of biological parents and families while involved in the child welfare system. 
  • Develop and implement systems that will create a lasting impact for the CASA program that is unique to each individual intern's skill set. 
  • Exit internship with a working knowledge of computer systems used for case tracking and data entry (Microsoft teams, CASA Manager, Eleo, Google, Moodle). 
  • Upon completion of an internship an intern should have developed an objective viewpoint of the child welfare system and gained skills to work in a professional setting.
